CHARTERED FINANCIAL PLANNERS

INDEPENDENT FINANCIAL ADVISERS

We like to think that we’re a breath of fresh air in the financial planning world. No annoying call centres, no mind-bending jargon. Just good old-fashioned personal service combined with the latest technology and research.

Director, Chartered Financial Planner

Holly Heald, FPFS

“Our guiding principle is delivering the right outcome for the client. It’s not about selling someone a product. We work hard to keep and demonstrate our independence, so you get the very best advice.”

I began working in financial services in 1998. Starting as an Administrator and Paraplanner, I worked my way up and began advising clients a few years later. In 2008, after the birth of baby number two, I decided to set up on my own and launched Just Financial Planning.

I had a vision: a good, honest financial service that was about finding the best solution for the individual to help them grow their assets over time. I wanted to create an inclusive service for people from all different backgrounds, where no one would be turned away because they’re not important enough.

I also wanted to know that, when I had a good idea, it would actually be implemented! Change, the right change, is a really important part of keeping any business relevant.

Focussing on providing a fair service and the best interest of our clients has helped us enjoy strong growth as a business. This growth became limited by space. We had our eye on the perfect office space to grow into, but it took several years for everything to fall into place! Making the move in 2016 and welcoming Roy and then David to the team has transformed the business. But our guiding principles have, and always will, remain the same.

Getting the right financial advice can make a big difference to an individual’s wealth, and that of their family’s, but it takes time and effort. It’s important that you feel in control. I will explain everything clearly in a way you will understand, so you are confident in the decisions we’re making together.

I’ve been Chartered since 2009, making me amongst the most qualified financial planners in the country. I advise on all aspects of financial planning, and work with many individuals from different walks in life. Much of my work is with handling pensions and investments and I have specialist qualifications in equity release, long term care and pension transfers.

Roy Durrant, FPFS

“I consider myself very lucky to work in a job where I can make a difference to people’s lives by making sure they’re comfortable and achieve their lifestyle plans. With over 26 years in the industry, I’ve got a lot of knowledge to share.”

I began my career as a “Man from the Pru” in 1991. For the past 18 years, I’ve worked as an Independent Financial Adviser for a number of firms before joining Just Financial Planning in 2016.

When I first sat down with Holly to discuss her plans for expanding Just Financial Planning, I was really heartened to learn that her ethos and approach to work mirrored my own. The priority is offering an advice process that encourages an ongoing relationship with clients. It’s that kind of relationship that really generates results.

Clients have told me before that they like my calm and measured approach. They find me easy to talk to, and appreciate that I take the time to explain things in a way that makes it easy to understand.

I was one of the first advisers in the UK to achieve Chartered Financial planner status. Much of my work involves working with business owners, or individuals who are at retirement age. I also do a lot of work in inheritance tax planning and trust planning.

I’m one of only 33 Resolution Accredited advisers in the country. This meansI’m qualified to help solicitors and divorcing couples come to an agreed financial settlement A lot of the resolution work I do involves more “complicated” cases – that’s where my years of experience really come in handy. It’s my job to dig deep to find where is a fair split – something that is reasonable and likely to be approved. Finding and agreeing a mid-ground can help reduce costs and long delays at a time which is, without exception, difficult.

I often work with women who, through a range of circumstance, may not have had much involvement in the family finances prior to the divorce. I then take on an educational role, teaching them what they need to know to move forward in a positive way financially. It’s interesting work that can be truly rewarding.

“I take a modern, holistic approach to financial planning. I’m objective driven – together, we’ll identify your end goal, or goals, and create a plan so you can enjoy your money, rather than worrying about it.”

Having studied various aspects of accounting, finance and investment management at university, financial planning felt like the right route for me. I was keen to work with individuals face to face to help them enjoy their finances. Having completed a graduate scheme, I joined Just Financial Planning in 2017.

My aim when I work with clients is to do everything I can to remove anxiety around money and simplify their approach. I’m fond of using cashflow modelling software to project forward to lifestyle goals, answering complex issues and making these goals achievable. I’m a true numbers person – I love looking at the figures behind decisions! It’s my job to look at the complicated areas and explain them in simple terms that make sense, no matter your financial know-how.

Through my work, I’m keen to encourage people to start working with a financial adviser sooner rather than later. The earlier you start, the easier it is to plan for the future – those early years can make a big difference. Working at Just Financial Planning is giving me that opportunity to really make a difference to people’s futures.

Achieving Chartered status is something I’m very proud of, and I am able to advise on all aspects of financial planning. I have found something of a niche for myself working with NHS pensions, and I also take care of a lot of defined benefit pension work.

Andrew Brown, DipPFS

“Helping people visualise and achieve their ideal financial future is what I love about being a financial planner.”

I’m a huge believer in that talking about your finances shouldn’t be such a taboo subject and the sooner you do, the sooner you are more likely to get to the financial freedom that you desire.

I started my career in financial services back in 2014 working as an investment reviewer at a private banking firm. I enjoyed this role but wanted to go down a path that would be more client facing. Therefore, I decided to take on a role with a wealth management firm where I worked my way up to become a qualified financial planner.

Having moved to Norfolk from Oxford, I joined Just Financial Planning as it was clear to see that the client centric values that they believe in as a company were parallel with mine and that they were true to the definition of the word just – fair; morally correct.

A client once told me that I was the only financial advisor that they have ever trusted enough to invest their money with. This meant a lot to me as trust is the foundation to any successful relationship and once it has been established, it is a fantastic basis to lead onto a successful partnership where my clients achieve their financial goals.
